Vernon has some great bakeries. Getting there early is usually the norm, as they do sell out quickly. Many of the local coffee shops and cafés make their own baked goods as well.
Located on Anderson Way, just off 27th St., COBS Bread bakers are up early making bread from scratch. Their bread has no added sugar, colour or preservatives and is made from 100% whole grain flour. At the end of each day, all their leftover bread is donated to local charities.
Sweet Caroline's Bakery was voted the #1 Bakery in the North Okanagan for five consecutive years. Their history goes back to 1888. They are a true artisan bakery, specializing in breads, pastries and cakes. They make everything right on location and are proud of their European Dutch background. Located at 3115 48th Ave. in Vernon.
All Okanagan Bakehouse breads are made with organic ingredients and natural sourdoughs. You can find them at 1-1800 Kal Lake Road Tuesday to Saturday starting at 7:30 a.m. There's no website but you can call them at 250-549-3024.
This is one of those bakeries that also doubles as a great coffee shop. Every Friday, Ratio serves fresh, hand-made donuts that have locals and tourists alike lining up for a taste of Chef Laurie's work of art. Located at Vernon's Historic CPR Station you are advised to get there early as they sell out quickly.
Freshly ground flours, baking supplies, bulk nuts, and dried fruits can all be found at Roger's Foods in nearby Spallumcheen. They've been doing this for over 60 years now and have created a line of breakfast cereals, granola and flours that are sold across North America. You can stop in at their bulk food store and purchase flour and grain products directly from the mill, as well as a large selection of goodies. Baking demonstrations and family events make Rogers Foods a must stop.
