Farm Touring - Vernon BC
July 22, 2012
Unlike the surrounding wine areas the North end of the Okanagan Valley has extensive orchards and farmlands. The area has a rich history of large scale fruit production and farm activities generating product for all of Canada.
This year Vernon partnered with the Shuswap area to create a farm tour brochure making navigation of unique farms easier for our visitor and locals. This time of year Raspberries, Apricots, Cherries and even Saskatoon’s are ready to be harvested. Many vegetables such as beets, onions, garlic and early potatoes are available at local farms. Another great family fun way to source local farm products is to attend the Vernon Farmers Market that runs Monday, Thursday & Friday and Westside Road on Saturdays.
There are farms such as Davison Orchard and Planet Bee that are popular attractions and many more specialized farms such as Triple Island Cheese, Zelaney Farms and Fieldstone Grainery. All of these are open to the public and are becoming more popular as visitors and locals look for the hidden gems of the area. The North Okanagan is also home to a Zebra & Bison Farm and a Tea Plantation both of which are rare for British Columbia!
If you’re looking for something to do Farm Touring is a sure bet! Stop and see the Visitor Centres for information on all the great Farms in our area!
