Ramping Up!
April 23, 2012
All the orchards are beginning to bloom and the farms have babies running around. The sun has some heat and most days here are perfect temperature for hiking or biking or simply taking a stroll in Polson Park. I see the City & Regional staff busy preparing the water works in the parks and planting flowers in all the public flower beds. The most activity is in Polson where literally thousands of flowers are planted yearly and with acres of green velvet grass are in perfect form to welcome all our visitors.
The hillsides are currently green and as summer moves in full force they will brown up and become hiding spots for all our furry and feathered neighbors. The Allen Brooks Nature Centre and Bishop Bird Sanctuary are bustling with wildlife activity. The Allen Brooks Nature Centre will be open for business soon so staff is polishing things up high on the hill above Vernon at the nature centre.
The Army Camp after a long winter seems to be getting more dark green military issued vehicles every day. Soon hundreds of young people from across Canada will embark on the camp ready to hone their cadet skills. Many of the parents also come looking to enjoy some Okanagan sunshine.
The Visitor Centre is getting more calls and emails daily people inquiring about things to do in Vernon, campgrounds, events and everything in between. Centre staffs prepare packages and send them off to all corners of the world. As well preparations are under way for the opening of two other seasonal centres so we will be sure to be available no matter what direction you’re driving through our fabulous city. So all that being said we hope you plan on making Vernon yours this year we will be ready to welcome you!
