“The weather is amazing right now!”

This week (and until at least Sunday), the weather is outstanding in Vernon!  Clear blue days with temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius.  At lunch, I spent some quality time on the patio of one of our lakeside spots.  Sunglasses were a must.  The conversation ranged from favourite biking spots to the joys of living a great lifestyle in Vernon.  Even learned about some new places to explore from a recent arrival from Edmonton! 

Whilst getting our daily dose of Vitamin D, we discussed the benefits of catabatic winds that roll off the nearby hills in late afternoon and cool things off a bit.  But nothing cools you off like a quick dip in the lake and over the past few weeks, that has been an after dinner ritual....yes, we are still swimming in our lakes...and waterskiing...and wakeboarding...and I've noticed the occasional fishers too! 

Went to the Farmer's market on Monday and got some amazing corn, green beans, garlic and tomatoes.  I'm a traditionalist when it comes to corn and still prefer the old fashioned all yellow variety.  But  either kind is available in abundance right now.  The corn went together with some local lamb and helped create a locavore feast.  My favourite part was the green beans sauteed with onions, garlic, a bit of butter, some heritage tomatoes and finshed off with a touch of good balsamic.  Dessert consisted of..what else...peaches and cream!  YUM!  The harvest continues through October and eating local is easy as pie!  So come on down to Vernon..the water, the weather and the watermelon are all fine right now!
