The Vernon Handbell Choir is one of the hidden jewels in the local music scene.
Directed by Winfield’s Dwight Holmberg, the choir performs on unique bronze bells and chimes that have a visual appeal and diverse sound.
The public can hear for themselves when the choir gives two performances in Vernon for the Christmas season.
The first one takes place on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, located at 15th Street and 32nd Avenue. The choir will be accompanied by flutist Devon Muhlert and the First Baptist choir.
The second performance is at Canterbury Court on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 1:30 p.m.

Sunday’s entertainment will feature Carr along with local guitarists Manfred Harter and El Gusto.

Mathys's career really took off in 1989, after performing at a big annual national arts festival in Oudtshoorn, South Africa. In April 2009, on his way to the same arts festival, a motorcycle accident left him paraplegic. Less than 3 months after his accident, he was back on stage in his wheelchair with his deep, rich, bass voice.
In this acoustic show, Mathys will pay tribute to masters such as Cat Stevens, Leonard Cohen and Neil Diamond and introduce the audience to old and new Afrikaans music. He will also perform music from his latest CD, which helps to tell his story.

The Winter Solstice Celebration features a wide variety of Okanagan performers, including Tanya Lipscombe, Blackberry Wood, Angela Roy and Space Monkey, as well as 16 local vendors exhibiting their crafts and foods.
