A great trail for all seasons, Longacre Trail is all about the rolling hills, water, and big sky views. This wide, paved 1.7 km walkway gently winds along the open hillside above Okanagan Landing subdivisions, the Strand and Paddlewheel Park.
Relax on a bench to soak in the views of Okanagan Lake and the rolling Bella Vista hillside. Towards the trail's southwest end, PRT's greenhouses grow reforestation tree seedlings for all of Canada and the western US. Behind you, forested rolling hills frame the Commonage grassland pastures with cattle grazing.
Commonage is the historic 10,165 hectare stretch of rangeland between Okanagan, Kalamalka and Wood Lake that was a common grazing area in the 1870’s for new settlers and the Okanagan Indian Band. Head down to Paddlewheel Park on Okanagan Landing Road to discover Okanagan Landing's great history from the mid-1800s to early- 1900s.
Look for: California Quail pose on fence posts for great photo ops. Hawks soar up high while swallows swoop overhead. Unique Mountain Bluebird boxes are mounted to fence posts. Coyotes call in the night.
