There's nothing like spending the day on the lake or at the beach and Vernon has several lakes and beaches. Whether it's fishing, stand up paddleboarding, water skiing, boating or spending the day making sand castles, you and your family are sure to enjoy a day on or near the water. Below are a few of our kid friendly beaches, chosen because they either have a variety of things to entertain the kids, shallow water, or both!
This beach is on Kalamalka Lake, one of our most popular lakes, which is great for fishing, water sports, boating and swimming. To make it even better, the lake is surrounded by mother nature and is located near a provincial park. Kal beach is located on the north shore of the lake and has a large marked swimming area, two swimming docks with ladders, a warf, beach volleyball, washrooms and change rooms. There is a concession stand on site and a family style pub/restaurant. The Kalavida Surf Shop (right next to the beach) has stand up paddle board lessons and rentals. You can also rent boats and kayaks right on the beach.
Your children will love to run and play at Kin Beach located on the eastern shore of the Vernon arm of Okanagan Lake. Feel the cool grass between your toes as you relax in the shade. The playground has swings, a teeter totter and a jungle gym. Gather the family in the large picnic shelter. The swimming area here has very shallow water off the sandy beach. Parking is available along Tronson Road, beside the park.
This small beach is great for a day out with the family. There's a sandy beach, a grassy play area and the park is wheelchair accessible. Paddlewheel Park has loads of trees to provide shade for those super sunny Okanagan days. Kids will love the playground, basketball court, beach volleyball courts and tennis courts. There's a boat launch here and public washrooms.
This small beach is within walking distance of Kalamalka Beach and the Rail Trail Cafe. Located off WestKal Road, this beach is great for the little ones as it has plenty of sand leading to rocky, shallow water. Bring your water shoes!
Please note: there are no lifeguards at public beaches in the Okanagan; however, swimming areas are generally well marked with water buoys.
