Kids of all ages just love the Kangaroo Creek Farm in Kelowna. It's a 25 minute drive from Vernon and well worth it. Make sure you and the kids wear appropriate footwear as you must walk down a hill to get to the farm, and there is plenty of grass, dirt, plants and uneven ground here. There is handicap parking available down the hill, next to the farm.
This is a true farm, and the animals don't come if they're called, but they are people friendly. You will be able to touch, pet, and sometimes feed kangaroos and wallabies, sugar gliders, pot bellied pigs, emus, parrots, peacocks, goats, fancy chickens and capybaras.
A mommy kangaroo is pregnant for 21 to 38 days. Then the baby, called a joey, makes its way into her pouch where it stays until it feels safe enough to venture out on its own. That can take anywhere from 120-450 days. The joeys at the Kangaroo Creek Farm are bottle fed, and if you can be gentle and still, you can ask to feed one of them.
Please check Kangaroo Creek’s website for current hours, opening dates and admission fees. Bring cash as they do not take credit cards. Make sure you read their rules before you go!
