When you watch a cross country skier glide by with grace, it looks much like a dance. While those that are dancing have mastered the skill, skiers of all ages and abilities can put on a pair of skinny skis and enjoy the quiet of the trails on Silver Star Mountain.
Only a 20 minute drive from Vernon, 105km of trails are groomed daily between SilverStar Mountain Resort and the Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre, making it the largest groomed network of cross-country ski trails in Canada.
The terrain at both these locations is perfect for first timers and experts. Both Sovereign Lake and Silver Star offer lessons and equipment rentals. Rentals are also available at the Village Ski Shop in the Silver Star Village. Individual passes for each area can be purchased or a dual area day pass.
Boasting a 7 month season, skiers can choose to finish their classic or skate ski with a hot chocolate either in the lodge at Sovereign, or in the village at SilverStar at Town Hall, Bugaboos Bakery or Tube Town Cafe.
At the Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre, you'll find a full service day lodge, ski school, rentals, night skiing, and a biathlon range.
Silver Star Mountain XC network has an upper and lower network of trails with trails ranging from easy (green) to difficult (black).
Two of the chairlifts and the gondola will give you access to the upper trails during regular operating hours or if you are looking to get your heart rate up, you can ski up to the top of the mountain. The lower trails can be accessed from the Pond or the Village and some of the trails are dog friendly.
