Locals start to get excited as soon as they see white flakes falling from the sky. When winter comes, there are an abundance of snow activities to keep you entertained in the Vernon area.
Heading up the hill to enjoy a day on the snow is a favourite winter activity.
Your day may start with fresh tracks on downhill skis, a loop of cross country on the freshly groomed runs, stopping for lunch in the village at SilverStar. In the afternoon head out among the snow covered trees on snowshoes or slide down the hill on a tube at Tube Town.
SilverStar Mountain Resort offers 100% natural snow for epic downhill skiing and snowboarding. Enjoy fresh tracks in champagne powder or on perfectly groomed slopes with a variety of terrain for all levels. A stroll through the Village will provide opportunities to shop for clothes, candy and ski equipment, or take a break and warm up at one of the many cafes or restaurants.
Enjoy the fresh air and take part in some cross country skiing.
SilverStar Mountain Resort and the Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre offer Canada’s largest daily groomed xc ski network with a 7 month long ski season to ski in.
Cross-mountain trails connect the two networks, providing over 105m of nordic trails. Rentals are available at SilverStar, the Village Ski Shop and Sovereign Lake.
Sovereign Lake and Silver Star Mountain Resort have a network of snowshoe trails for all abilities. Trails are colour coded, with green being the easiest, blue for moderate and black for difficult.
Tube Town at Silver Star is a popular place for kids and kids-at-heart. Without having to carry your tube up, all you have to worry about is the best way to slide, spin and swerve on your way down!
Don't forget to visit Brewers Pond for ice skating and hockey on real ice. Skate rentals are available.
Another way to explore the snow is by fat bike, a bike with oversized tires. Riders can explore more than 15 kms of fat bike trails at SilverStar and when weather permits, on the biking trails in the provincial parks. Check out the trails updates on the NOCS website for more information and updates on fat biking in the winter months.
Ski or snowboard in the Monashee Mountains. Visit the Cat Skiing page for more information.
