Enjoy a day at the beach in Vernon; we have lots of them, and temperatures in are typically warm enough to continue enjoying well into fall! Find the perfect spot for you and your family. Pick a quiet fishing hole, a hidden cove for a family picnic or a beachside playground, Vernon is overflowing with options for a well-deserved family time out. Consider a watersport rental of kayaks, standup paddleboards, patio boat or wakesurf boat to explore local lakes at your leisure.
Take the whole family out to Davison Orchards anytime from spring through fall, but particularly during harvest season. There's so much to see and do you might have a hard time fitting it all in to one day, including tours of the apple orchard, u-pick and enjoying fresh baked apple pie at the Farmhouse Cafe. On your way back, head down the road to Planet Bee and get the latest buzz on the valley bees and their tasty products, with a tasting of Western Canada’s largest selection of raw, pure honey or a sampling of their hand-crated mead for the grown ups.
From September to mid-October stock up on pears, apples, pumpkins, and other fall harvest goodies. There are plenty of fall festivals and events throughout the valley, including Family Daze in the Corn Maze at Historic O'Keefe Ranch (or their spookier haunted corn maze). See our Harvest Time section for all the events, festivals, fairs and fun things to do in the fall.
The best place to learn about the different creatures, plants and wildlife in Vernon is at the Allan Brooks Nature Centre, open until the end of October, where you can walk the trails, explore the naturescape garden and viewpoints or take in the interpretive exhibits. In chilly weather, head indoors to Okanagan Science Centre for interactive displays and exhibits, often with an Okanagan focus. Historic O'Keefe Ranch is always a great place to spend a warm fall afternoon, where you can learn about the history of the Okanagan Valley at the over 150-year-old, former working ranch and pet the farm animals. On cooler days or to appease the creative types in your family, stop in at the Vernon Community Arts Centre for classes, or visit the gallery and art shop to find a unique gift or memento of your trip.
