Meet the Makers Part 3: Sweet Stories from Planet Bee Honey Farm and Honeymoon Meadery
If you’re looking to take home some sweet memories, Planet Bee offers visitors a chance to witness honey bees up close, stroll the flower gardens, and sample delicious mead from their meadery. For part three of our summer series introducing you to the makers of Vernon, we talked to Owner/Operator Olivia to get her recommendations for the best ways to enjoy a visit to her farm.
If someone had just one day in Vernon, what would you recommend they do before or after visiting Planet Bee?
My must-do activity would have to be riding bikes on the Rail Trail! Treat yourself to a snack or treat from the Rail Trail Market & Café or hop in Kalamalka Lake as a reward after your scenic ride.
What's one drink or tasting experience every visitor should try?
My favourite mead at Planet Bee is our Blackberry Twist, it’s not too dry and not too sweet. On a hot summer’s day, I enjoy making a wine spritzer by mixing it with club soda, it makes a perfect patio drink!
What part of visiting Planet Bee might surprise visitors?
Our Honey Wines come in a whole range of sweetness levels, including completely dry. When you sample our Mead, we start with some dry options and then get progressively sweeter, finishing with one of our dessert wines. There is truly a flavor to suit every palate!
Is there anything exciting happening this season that you'd like visitors to know about?
Planting is underway on our Pollinator Sanctuary, which will officially open in 2027 on our 30th anniversary. This 1/3 acre space will be planted with bee-friendly native plants, attracting honey bees, native pollinators, butterflies, and birds.
